The New York Times Company-owned newspaper, which combines content from its own correspondents with that of The New York Times, will be offering free access to its content on both apps for the rest of the year.
The apps, which are available from the iTunes app store today (29 November), echo the design of the paper. It has a "latest news" section, featuring stories from globalnytimes.com as they break throughout the day. Other sections include world news, culture and style, sport, views and business with Reuters.
Additional features include a "Day in Pictures" slideshow, video content from global.nytimes.com, a world weather tool and the ability to share content via social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
The apps will be available in all 180 of the countries in which the Paris-based IHT is on sale.
The IHT will start charging for the apps in 2011, but has not confirmed pricing details.
A spokeswoman for IHT said it had advertisers lined up for the New Year, when it will start charging for the app, but was unable to disclose details.
